About Therapeutic Hypnosis|
What is hypnosis, really?
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation, during which the conscious mind takes a back seat in directing our attention. During this deeply relaxing process, we can communicate with the subconscious mind, where many inner saboteurs (motivations that hinder us from doing what we would like to accomplish) are located. During hypnosis, we are able to identify our inner saboteurs, reveal the causes or issues that underlie them, and release the grip of these inner issues. Having done this, we can then transform our inner process into a flow of healthy, positive energy that supports and fuels our goals and aspirations. This is mind/body energy at its best.
What about the stuff I’ve seen on TV?
This is known as “Stage Hypnosis”. It can be highly entertaining, and is great fun for a lot of people. Its purpose is quite different, however. Therapeutic hypnosis is as different from stage hypnosis as grilled lobster is from canned tuna. They are both edible, but the lobster experience is a world apart. In therapeutic hypnosis, the client maintains full awareness, full memory, and full control.
Will I lose consciousness during hypnosis?
This is a common misconception. Hypnotized persons do not fall asleep or lose consciousness. The brain waves of a hypnotized person recorded by EEG are identical with those of a person who is awake, alert and relaxed, with eyes closed.
Do I lose control during hypnosis?
This is a myth popularized in novels, comic strips and movies. The hypnotized person retains full control.
Is it true that only weak-willed people can be hypnotized?
Contrary to this misconception, there is actually a positive correlation between intelligence and hypnotizability. It is virtually impossible to hypnotize a person of very low intelligence.
Will I be made to do anything I don’t want to do?
Hypnosis doesn’t place a person under the control of the hypnotist. The hypnotized person is always in full control and cannot be made to do anything against her/his will. Further, hypnosis is not a contest of wills. It is an agreement of cooperation and trust between the client and the hypnotist.
"Hypnosis can be used very effectively for pain reduction. It can also be very useful in treating anxiety in people who are anxious. Hypnosis has been shown to be effective in helping people to stop smoking and in controlling overeating."

Dr. Z. uses a number of different techniques, depending on the client and her/his individual needs and goals. It is like having a large toolbox for repairing or renovating a house. She employs the appropriate tool or technique for each individual and the need that presents at that particular session.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
Tapping on specific acupressure points while speaking aloud a key phrase selected for that individual and the issue being addressed in that particular session. The EFT technique corrects disturbances in the body’s energy meridians. This has the effect of changing the energy pattern involved in our emotional response to the issue at hand. Changing the energetic frequency effectively changes the emotion.
Root Cause Technique
Using a combination of acupressure points and verbal imagery to help transform sadness, fear, anger, guilt, grief and emotional trauma associated with an issue, event or memory.
Guided Imagery
The natural language of the subconscious mind, metaphor and imagery give us the ability to connect with deeper resources available to us at cognitive, emotional and somatic levels. By eliciting imagery that symbolizes current issues and by exploring what these images mean, clients can experience profound psychological and physiological changes and feel empowered to conquer their own pain and suffering. The solutions are there, in our minds. Therapeutic hypnosis is the guide that helps us find these solutions.
NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming)
Using a timeline technique to effect emotional healing for current and past issues. NLP is also used to create an inner picture of the future self, in order that the subconscious mind can then work to effect the necessary changes in our habitual behaviors.
Deep Inner Healer
A unique and transformative technique that uses guided imagery to connect each person with her/his own inner emotional healing power.
Life Regression
A highly effective technique that explores the cause of current life issues from the perspective of childhood, in-utero or past life experience, and potentiates healing from that knowledge.
Reiki Energy Work
The word Reiki has been translated “Universal Life energy”. The Universe around us is filled with inexhaustible, limitless energy. It is this energy that animates the body and is responsible for the power of thoughts and emotions. Reiki is this natural healing energy directed in a concentrated form through the intent of the Reiki practitioner into the energy field of the recipient. Because it can open blocked energies of body, mind and spirit, it can enhance creativity and physical, emotional and cognitive energy. It can ease and enhance transitions of life, stress, and illness. Reiki is not a miracle, but its integrative energy sometimes seems to have miraculous effects.
